Tara Lyster

Tara Lyster is a Registered Nurse, union advocate, and Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Nursing at Thompson Rivers University, where she has been a faculty member since 2013. Tara received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1996 from the University College of the Cariboo and her Master of Nursing with a focus in leadership in 2014 from Athabasca University. She spent the first part of her career working as staff nurse in a variety of clinical settings; notable is her time working in Oncology, Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Children’s Hospital and the years she worked for HealthLinkBC. Tara has been an integral part of the Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association (TRUFA) since 2017, when she became a faculty rep on the executive. In 2018, Tara also took on the role of union steward and continued in this role until 2021. During the 2019 bargaining round, Tara served as Co-bargainer for contract negotiations. In 2019, Tara was elected Vice President, serving for two years before being elected TRUFA President in 2021. In 2022, Tara expanded her impact by being elected to the FPSE executive, as member-at-large from Presidents’ Council, a role she continues in today. Tara demonstrates a strong commitment to advocacy, union principles, leadership, and a passion for teaching. Tara works tirelessly to support and advocate for faculty.
