Education as a Public Good 

Public education is a cornerstone of a thriving, democratic society—one that shapes individuals, strengthens communities, and supports collective prosperity.

Education holds significant social and personal value, empowering learners and educators through mutual respect and collaboration.

In British Columbia, public education is an essential right and critical investment, fostering equity, accessibility, and academic freedom. From K–12 to post-secondary institutions, education should welcome diverse perspectives, promote dialogue, and support learners and educators equally.

Quality education relies on meaningful interactions, equitable opportunities, ongoing professional development, and scholarly activities that enrich learning.

Together, we can advocate for a public education system that strengthens democracy, promotes equity, and supports success for all.

Committees

FPSE’s standing committees connect the dots between our workplaces, our unions, and our communities. FPSE committees provide members a place to share information, experience and insights across all of our member faculty associations. Through these committees, FPSE members help set our priorities, develop policy and contribute to research and campaigns.

 

Academic Governance Committee

The Academic Governance Committee works to advance a broader understanding by members of locals of how they can become more active participants of the academic governance practices at their respective institutions.

Mobilizing and empowering faculty across member locals is at the heart of our advocacy efforts. Our campaigns focus on elevating the voices of post-secondary educators, influencing policy decisions, and fostering stronger connections with our communities. By uniting around common goals, we make meaningful strides toward a fair, equitable, and thriving post-secondary education system in BC.

 

Unlock Education

Everyone deserves the freedom associated with post-secondary education. Financial barriers shouldn’t block young Canadians from unlocking their potential.

Post-Secondary Education Funding is a campaign demanding urgent action to address the funding crisis facing British Columbia’s colleges, institutes, and universities. As layoffs and budget cuts threaten the very foundation of accessible, high-quality post-secondary education, this campaign calls on the provincial government to reinvest in the system it claims to oversee.
