Bargaining

Bargaining is a critical process where unions and employers negotiate to secure fair wages, benefits, and working conditions for employees.

Successful bargaining strengthens the collective agreement, ensuring that members’ rights and workplace standards are upheld and improved over time.

At FPSE, we provide extensive support to locals throughout all stages of bargaining, from preparation to finalizing agreements. Our services include:

  • Research and Strategy Development: We equip bargaining teams with data, research, and best practices to build strong, evidence-based proposals.
  • Bargaining Coordination: FPSE brings together bargaining representatives from member locals to share strategies and ensure consistency in negotiations across institutions.
  • Negotiation Support: Staff Representatives offer expert guidance at the table, helping locals navigate complex negotiations and overcome challenges.
  • Advocacy and Communication: We amplify the voices of our members through coordinated advocacy campaigns, ensuring that both employers and the public understand the importance of fair agreements.

For more information about accessing FPSE’s bargaining services, refer to the Policy and Procedures Manual.

Bargaining Preparation and Training

FPSE provides regular bargaining training for local leaders, equipping them with the tools to negotiate effectively. We also facilitate knowledge sharing through the Bargaining Coordination Committee (BCC), which helps locals stay informed about trends and tactics that can influence outcomes.
