"Hundreds of organizations representing thousands of citizens, activists and union members are making a statement today by darkening their websites," said Cindy Oliver, President of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators (FPSE). "The campaign is part of a broader effort to protest the unprecedented measures that the Harper government is taking to radically re-shape economic and social policy in Canada," Oliver added.

"Whether it's the changes to Employment Insurance, the dismantling of environmental oversight or the relentless cutting of federal services and programs across our country, the Tories are implementing profound changes in Canada. None of these changes were ever mentioned during the federal election, yet Mr. Harper, with his majority status firmly in hand, is now imposing measures that are putting Canada on the wrong track," Oliver stressed.

"We are asking members to join this day long effort. Find out more about this campaign and how you can participate by clicking on the links below. Your voice can make a real difference," Oliver concluded.
